Wearing of face shields in Iloilo province will soon be mandatory following the approval of the Provincial Ordinance No. 2020-08-09 by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) as additional measure to curb the increasing coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the province.
The ordinance, authored by Vice-Governor Christine Garin, makes mandatory the use of face shield “in all public places, private establishments, other workplaces, and while riding on any means of public transportation during the duration of the Covid-19”.
It was one of the three ordinances enacted by the legislative body during their Sept. 1, 2020 regular session.
"We know and everybody knows that there is an increasing Covid-19 in the province of Iloilo and we should implement additional protection for the people to avoid being infected," she said.
The vice-governor added that while the public has been wearing face masks as protection against the disease, yet it is still better to wear a face shield to minimize the spread of the virus.
Everyone should consider themselves carrier of the virus so that they would be extra careful and mindful of the minimum health protocols, she said.
It is important to remember that the face shield to be use should be 'non-porous' or the liquid or air could not be able to penetrate, she added.
The Department of Health has already advised the public to wear face shield that could protect the eyes, nose and mouth of a person.
A violation of the ordinance would mean reprimand for the first offense, a fine of P1,000 or imprisonment for a period of three days or both at the discretion of the court on second offense and a fine of P2,500 or imprisonment for a period of 10 days or both at the discretion of the court on the third offense.
It must be noted that base on the Covid-19 Regional Case Bulletin No. 164 of DOH-6, dated September 7, 2020, the region has already 6,153 total cases with 3,029 total active cases because of additional 199 confirmed cases. There are 3,034 total reported recoveries with additional 120 reported on stated date. The total reported deaths has reached to 90 with 3 deaths additional reported.
The province of Iloilo has already 525 total cases according to bulletin no. 164 of DOH-6. There are 217 total active cases out of 525 total cases with 291 have recovered and 17 have died.
