The Committee on Games and Amusement chaired by Ex-Officio Board Member Ramon Sullano, the Interim President of Philippine Councilors League - Iloilo Chapter, recommended during the 81st Regular Session of the 13th Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Iloilo that his committee report be adopted and to approve the two resolutions 1) Interposing No Objection on the Delayed Digital Streaming Subject to the Guidelines of LGUs and Other Agencies Digital Streaming Coverage of Cockfighting Activities Inside the Licensed Cockpit in the Province of Iloilo, and 2) Favorably Endorsing the Letter Request of Panay Breeders Association and Cockpit Operators to IATF to Allow Maximum of 30 Percent Seating Capacity of Cockpit Arena.
"We pushed two resolutions as what the group has agreed on during the committee hearing," said Sullano.
The breeders and cockpit operators sent a letter to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan asking for help to alleviate their condition, and the condition of the entire cockfight industry in the province of Iloilo.
The committee hearing was conducted on February 10, 2021 and attended by the group of Atty. Jojo Lutero, the representative of cockpit operators in Iloilo and Guimaras, and the Panay Gamefowl Breeders Association (PAGBA) represented by Atty. Jun Altura.
"The power to grant franchise is with the local government unit, it depends to them if they would allow the supposed adjustments," said Sullano.
The local government units can gain bigger taxes, while the vendors, merchants and other people can again benefit from this cockfight industry.
"As of now, we are hoping that the Inter-Agency Task Force will answer and favor the two resolutions recommended by the members of the 13th Iloilo SP," Sullano added.
According to Sullano, the pandemic has a great effect to cockfight industry as lamented by the cockpit operators and breeders association, including those who have a small business or those who are vending during cockfights.
"We are hoping for the immediate actions of IATF on the two resolutions we passed," said Sullano.
