The legislative action of the 13th Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Iloilo this year will focus on addressing COVID-19 pandemic concerns amidst election season.
The campaign period is fast approaching and the term of 13th Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Iloilo is about to end. After election, there will be new members but majority of the incumbent board members will still be there because they have no political opponents.
In the radio program Sanggunian In Action, 4th District Board Member Domingo Oso, Jr. said that their direction, with the Vice Governor and majority of the board members, will focus on addressing COVID-19 concerns, especially that the province was declared an under state of health emergency and was declared also as under the state of calamity due to typhoon Odette.
"With the programs of the governor, our legislative action will focus on addressing COVID-19 concerns, especially the presence of new variant, in order to minimize the ill effect, and to support the vaccination roll-out and booster shots," 4th District Board Member Domingo Oso, Jr. said.
As chairman of the Committee on Appropriations, they will set aside money for booster shots and other health issues which need to be given attention in relation to COVID-19 pandemic just like what they did before.
He said that it includes the rehabilitation effort of Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr., if the COVID-19 health issue subsides, for the rehabilitation of the province because we had been under the state of calamity.
'We will support the governor in facing health issue concerns and state of calamity due to typhoon Odette by passing an ordinance that could address for these programs," he added.
The Iloilo SP is one step forward as of now, taking steps in one direction with the governor. Majority of them have no political opponents in this election, the focus of the August Body through the leadership of Vice Governor Christine "Tingting" Garin, is to have a collaborative effort between the legislative and the executive to address the problems.
Included in the COVID-19 issue is the recovery program on economy, the hospitals of the province of Iloilo are being developed to help them in addressing the covid-19 pandemic and health issues.
"We are one step forward because we are avoiding political clashes in this coming elections, in order to unite the local elective officials to face the problem.
He said that being the Majority Floor Leader and Chairman of the Committee on Appropriations, his directions would be, with the vice governor and majority of the board members, to work with the governor to address issues and concerns in the province of Iloilo.
"Divisiveness is an enemy of progress and development," 4th District Board Member Domingo Oso, Jr. said.
The problems of the province, or occurrence of unwanted circumstance, will be solved through the help and cooperation of the united local political leaders.
The Iloilo SP passed the ordinances to strengthen the executive orders and pronouncements of the governor.
"Modesty aside, I'm very proud because of collaborative effort, and wisdom, and proactive thinking of the board members, we have surpassed our target, we have passed a lot of ordinances addressing the problems and concerns that we are facing," he added.
The Iloilo SP has been responsive because they give attention to solve the problem. As for him, whenever he sees problems, concerns or issues, as a member of Provincial Development Council with Board Member Dorothy Paes, they carry these to the Provincial Board by passing of an ordinance.
"We are doing our best in the Sanggunian to address and help our governor and because we are united with the vice governor, we have a smooth operation of the province, Oso added.
